Today, Apple is worth hundreds of billions of dollars and has over 500 stores in 24 countries around the world.Apple stores weren't even a “thing” until 2001. That year, late cofounder Steve Jobs hired Ron Johnson, the former CEO of JCPenney, to help Apple open its first two physical stores in Glendale, California, and Tysons Corner, Virginia.Apple stores were a massive hit. Apple became the fastest retailer in history to reach $1 billion in annual sales, making all of that money in its first three years of operation.
