MetaTrader is a popular computerized trading platform among retail and speculative foreign exchange dealers. MetaQuotes Software created it and published the first MetaTrader 4 in 2005. Foreign exchange brokers that supply the software to their customers are licensed to use it. The program is made up of a client and a server component. The broker runs the server component, while the client software is distributed to the broker's clients, who use it to see live streaming prices and charts, place orders, and manage their accounts.
The client is a Microsoft Windows-based program that gained popularity mostly owing to the ability of end users to create trading scripts and robots to automate trading. MetaTrader 5 was launched by MetaQuotes in 2010. However, adoption was gradual, and most brokers were still using MT4 as of April 2013. While there is no official MetaTrader 4 version for Mac OS, several brokers provide custom-developed MT4 variations for the platform.
Metatrader is also available on mobile platforms, including Android, iOS (which will be discontinued in September 2022), and Windows Mobile.
About MetaQuotes
From a basic FX Charts platform to the MetaTrader 5 multi-asset trading platform, the business has created a number of successful software products.
FX Charts, MetaQuotes' initial product, was published in the year 2000. This simple software enabled trading operations and currency pair quotations analysis in the Forex market. In comparison to its pricey and low-performance predecessors, FX Charts was a really groundbreaking and highly useful tool that was accessible at a reasonable price. The innovative offering soon acquired market share and was adopted by other brokerage houses.
Following the first success, the business proceeded to improve its products and produced the MetaQuotes platform, which contained the new MQL (MetaQuotes Language) programming language. The market was enthused about the new offering since it allowed traders to use automated robots in financial trading.
With the third-generation MetaTrader platform, traders now have the option to trade futures in addition to currency pairs. The first mobile trading programs, MetaTrader CE and MetaTrader for Palm, were introduced a year later, in 2003. This release significantly boosted the number of traders who used the new platform and enhanced market interest in MetaQuotes' software solutions.
Who is the man behind MetaTrader and MetaQuotes?
Renat Fatkhullin, CEO of MetaQuotes, invented MetaTrader in 2002. This Windows-based program has been updated multiple times since 2000, with the first stable version released in 2002. The most popular program, however, is MT4 (MetaTrader 4), was released in 2004. Since then, it has become the most successful trading platform in the world. For example, the MT4 platform is used by over 100,000 forex brokers globally, and millions of traders utilize it on a regular basis.
Renat is seldom seen in public and is mostly concerned with MetaTrader platform updates. Renat Fatkhullin's Page Renat Fatkhullin usually releases every MT4 and MT5 update. MetaQuotes is headquartered in Cyprus.
But the truth is more complicated. Renat tested multiple versions between 2000 and 2002. In 2002, the first stable version was released. The secret sauce that propelled this firm to the top was “basic Microsoft Windows design” (similar to MS Office products) and the fact that the software is completely free for traders. If you wish to trade, though, you must employ brokers. Metaquotes is a business-to-business startup that makes money by selling licenses to CFD brokers.
