Abstract:Swissquote, Stableton Financial, and Morningstar Indexes have launched a new investment product that provides access to privately-held, high-growth firms. The product emulates Morningstar's Unicorn Select 20 Index, using two investment vehicles: an Actively Managed Certificate for retail investors and a fund for institutional investors.
In a groundbreaking partnership, Swiss online banking leader Swissquote, fintech platform Stableton Financial AG, and Morningstar Indexes have launched the first-ever private market product of its kind. Stableton‘s Unicorn investment offering, designed around VC-backed growth equity and institutional-grade investment solutions, will incorporate Morningstar Indexes’ prowess in data and analytics.
The Unicorn index, calculated by Morningstar Indexes, forms the core of the investment strategy of Stableton‘s new products. These comprise two separate investment vehicles, each offering cost-effective and efficient access to a broad collection of the world’s most inventive privately-held, high-growth firms: a bankable Actively Managed Certificate (AMC) with a Swiss ISIN for retail investors and an open-ended Luxembourg investment fund for institutional investors.
The Swissquote platform will act as the official Swiss launch partner for Stabletons AMC product, catering to retail investors. The goal for both investment vehicles is to accurately emulate the Morningstar® PitchBook® Unicorn Select 20 IndexTM, which gauges the performance of the top 20 venture-backed companies from developed markets with a valuation exceeding $1 billion.
Investors are constantly exploring avenues to diversify their portfolios, and privately-held high-growth firms like SpaceX have become increasingly appealing. These firms, often at the forefront of emerging trends and technologies, can concentrate on long-term growth and innovation without the pressures of public trading.
While these companies often offer compelling investment opportunities and potentially significant returns, investing in them usually involves high investment minimums, capital calls, long-term fund commitments, opaque investments, and high fees.
Stableton‘s strategy, which closely mirrors the Morningstar Indexes’ transparent, rule-based selection of index constituents, circumvents these barriers. By utilizing its private market transaction experience, unique market and structuring expertise, robust deal-sourcing networks, and understanding of secondary market pricing, Stableton can emulate the index holdings accurately, providing the possibility of matching the index performance over time through cost-effective execution. This approach also enhances the overall liquidity of the offering.
Swissquotes partnership with Stableton as the official launch partner in Switzerland for the AMC expands its product portfolio, offering its clients exclusive access to private market investments.
Swissquotes Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Jan De Schepper, commented, “We are proud to launch the Stableton Unicorn investment offering, providing our clients access to private market investments, a rapidly emerging trend in the finance sector.”
Andreas Bezner, CEO of Stableton, echoed the sentiment, expressing excitement about the unique investment opportunities that the Stableton Unicorn offering presents.
Sanjay Arya, Head of Innovation, Index Products at Morningstar, added, “Our new private market unicorn indexes offer timely insights and unprecedented transparency into the performance of some of the world's largest unicorns, and we are excited to see Stableton using them as a benchmark for its new offering. This initiative provides investors with access to previously inaccessible growth opportunities in the market.”
